1940-2023 Dick Spivey, Bell Tiltrotor Advocate, Army Research Leader, VFS Emeritus Member Richard Spivey was born on Dec. 6, 1940, in Chicopee, and raised in Marietta, Georgia, in a house his father had built himself. In fact, both his parents worked in the Bell Aircraft B-29 bomber plant during World War II. He enrolled at the nearby Georgia Institute of Technology in 1958, graduating in 1964 with a BS in Aerospace Engineering.
