1968-2023 Joan Pham, Safety Risk Leader Dr. Loan (Joan) Pham was born in Vietnam in 1968; at age seven, she was separated from her family while escaping the communist takeover. Eight years later they were reconnected, and she came to the US just before high school with minimal knowledge of the English language. She was a brilliant and hardworking student, receiving a BS in Core Mathematics and an MS in Statistics at Purdue University, and a PhD in Industrial and System Engineering at Rutgers University — a rare combination of degrees that prepared her for the unique position that she held at Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin company.
