Ray D. Leoni, Sikorsky Engineer, “Father of the Black Hawk” (1929-2023)

Leoni was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, on May 5, 1929, the son of Angelo N. Leoni and Millie E. Maselli. He received his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Brown University and a master’s in engineering from Yale University. He began his career at Sikorsky Aircraft as a junior engineer in 1951 and retired 41 years later as Senior Vice President for Engineering and Advanced Programs.
