The Georgia Tech Aerial Robotics team competed in the Mohamed Bin Zayed International Robotic Challenge in March 2017. Part of the challenge tasked a team of aerial robots to locate, pickup, and deliver a set of ground-based packages to a set location. The vehicle designed for the challenge is a relatively new VTOL concept that operates with additional degrees of freedom compared to standard multirotors. It has the ability to translate without rotating, or rotate without translating. The system designed was able to autonomously locate and deliver packages. The technology developed could be used in the future for package delivery systems.
