A full-scale mockup of the Bell D-306 (sometimes referred to as D306) light twin concept on display at the Helicopter Association of America (HAA) convention in January 1974. The mockup was created and displayed to gauge market potential and gather operator requirements. This led to the Model 222, five prototypes of which were built based on the D-306. The Model 222 first flew on August 13, 1976. From Vertiflite, March/April 1974 (page 30).
