The UK government committed itself to the full program-of-record of 138 Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) aircraft, as part of the Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR) released on Nov. 23, 2015. The Royal Air Force and Royal Navy will consequently receive all requested short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) F-35Bs. The SDSR also accelerates the initial deliveries such that the aircraft will be ready to deploy aboard the HMS Queen Elizabeth and Prince of Wales when they are fully operational in 2023.
