The Captain William J. Kossler Award went this year to Marine Helicopter Experimental Squadron One (HMX-1), US Marine Corps Air Station, Quantico, VA, and Executive Flight Detachment, Davison US Army Air Field, Fort Belvoir, VA, for consistent demonstration of helicopter convenience and safety through the regular transportation of the President of the United States and other government officials.

It therefore was doubly gracious of President Eisenhower to be on hand to personally congratulate his pilots for a job well done. In photo, the President beams his approval as Colonels Howell and Armstrong accept the Kossler Award from Charles H. Kaman, Awards Chairman.
