
The 2025 Captain William J. Kossler, USCG Award was given to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). As operator of the world’s largest civilian firefighting aviation fleet, CAL FIRE has demonstrated exceptional capability in rapid deployment, advanced rescue operations, and pioneering night aerial suppression.
The award was accepted by Ben Berman (right), Chief Helicopter Pilot at CAL FIRE, and presented by VFS Chair of the Board Harry Nahatis (left) at the Forum 81 Grand Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
