The PV-2 was the first successful design by PV-Forum, the engineering consulting company formed by Frank Piasecki and Harold Venzie (hence 'PV') after the former left the Platt-LePage Aircraft Company. The aircraft first flew on April 11, 1943. It was the second helicopter designed by an American to successfully fly. The success of the aircraft acted as a 'springboard' for further government contracts to be awarded to the company from the U.S. Navy which would lead to the formation of the Piasecki Aircraft Corporation.
First place winner in the 2018 AHS Photo Contest in the category of "The Past of Vertical Flight".
