Igor Sikorsky, Sikorsky VS-300, 1939. This was the 1st configuration.
Trail Blazer. The VS-300 helicopter lifts off the ground on one of its early test flights in September, 1939, with inventor Igor I. Sikorsky at the controls. The weights hanging from the landing gear struts were attached to prevent the aircraft from rising very far into the air until the controls were perfected and understood.
