WORLD'S FIRST successful convertiplane, the McDonnell XV-1, has again shattered the world's speed record for helicopters, reaching 200 miles-an-hour during recent tests near St. Louis. 

John Noll, McDonnell test pilot, has put the unique craft through 13 successful helicopter-to-airplane conversions to date and Captain Wayne W. Eggert, Air Force ARDC test pilot, has made five. 

The XV-1 recently concluded an intensive flight evaluation program conducted by an ARDC flight test staff from Edwards Air Force Base California.
