McDonnell Aircraft model 120. OPERATION BOOTSTRAP: A new cargo helicopter, believed capable of lifting more weight for its size than any similar craft, demonstrates its ability to pick up its own weight in a flight at Smartt Field near St. Louis, Mo. The machine, developed by the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation, can carry a 2000 pound payload a distance of 80 nautical miles. It is designed for both military and commercial use. The new helicopter is powered by pressure jet burners mounted on three rotor blades with compressed air being supplied by three gas turbine compressors.
