For Immediate Release
Helicopter Type Certificate No.1, the first ever granted by the Civil Aeronautics Administration was presented Wednesday May 8 to Bell Aircraft Corporation for its Model 47 by T.P. Wright, Administrator of Civil Aeronautics, in Washington. "It's quite an occasion," Mr. Wright observed as he presented the Approved Type Certificate to David G. Forman, Manager of Bell's Helicopter Division. "People have been dreaming about this for 40 years. Issuance of this certificate proves the airworthiness of the plane... Although still in an early stage of development, helicopters will soon be ready for commercial, industrial and military markets." Let to right: Charles F. Dycer, Director of Aircraft and Components Service, CAA, who signed the certificate; Mr. Forman and Mr. Wright. Bell is now building 500 helicopters.
