Metal blade - designed to be individually interchangeable, Vertol's new metal rotor blades reduce vibration, eliminate erosion problems and stay in track longer. The forward portion is a D-shaped spar formed by cold rolling a Rockrited steel tube. The addition of a trailing edge modifies the section from a standard NACA 0012 symmetrical airfoil to a modified cusped section for better dynamic and aerodynamic characteristics. The entire blade is bonded, eliminating stress concentrations and reducing the possibility of fatigue failure. From Vertiflite (AHS Newsletter) May 1957.
