Petroleum Helicopters Inc. has become the first operator authorized to conduct helicopter instrument flight operations under Federal Air Regulations for Air-Taxi operators. The first such flight was conducted on May 16, 1975. It also marked the first use of helicopter without autopilot In IFR conditions and very low-frequency navigation. The flight occurred in Louisiana and over the Gulf of Mexico.
