Charles H. Kaman (left) chats with Al Ashley, senior test pilot, Kaman Aerospace, following the first flight of the new Kaman developed advanced rotor for the UH-1 Cobra Helicopter. Under contract to the U.S. Army, Kaman Aerospace designed and produced the composite blade. It was less vulnerable to enemy counter-fire, not easily detected by radar, is expected to improve performance, and be less expensive to produce. Test Pilot on the first flight wasAndy Foster, Chief of Flight Test; Ashley was copilot.
