Boeing YT60 under official inspection. Boeing Industrial Products Division's 430 horsepower YT60 gas turbine engine recently completed its 50-hour preliminary flight rating test. Some of the individual parts that make up the 325-pound two-shaft engine are shown here being inspected after the test. From left to right, Wesley V. Taylor, USN Aircraft Engine Laboratory; William Anderson, Boeing YT60 program manager; E.H. Kirchhof, Office of the Inspector of Naval Materiel; and Alfred G. Steinert, USN Bureau of Naval Weapons. The Navy's official approval of a preliminary flight rating for the YT60 was based on this extensive detail inspection. The Boeing YT60 is the only U.S. turbine in the 350-450 horsepower class to achieve this rating. Boeing Airplane Company photo. From Vertiflite (AHS Newsletter) Sept 1960.
