The Frederick L. Feinberg Award, given each year to the helicopter pilot who has accomplished the most outstanding achievement, was awarded to Lieutenant John P. Currier, U.S. Coast Guard. Currier was honored for his heroic rescue of 10 people from the burning and sinking fishing vessel TERRY T in the midst of a violent thunderstorm.
All the 10 men were saved from the TERRY T and throughout the mission Currier and his crew showed exemplary skill and courage.
