The Captain William J. Kossler, USCG Award won by US Marine Corps Squadron VMR-1, Search and Rescue Detachment based in Cherry Point, NC (Pedro) for the year 2000, presented at Annual Forum 56.
VMR-1 HH-46 aircraft and crews flew 50 sorties and 63 flight hours in emergency conditions and recovered 399 people stranded in trees and roof tops and flooded vehicles. They also delivered nearly 15,000 pounds of food, water and medical supplies to North Carolina communities in need.
