The Captain William J. Kossler, USCG Award won by US Marine Corps Squadron VMR-1, Search and Rescue Detachment based in Cherry Point, NC (Pedro) for the year 2000, presented at Annual Forum 56. VMR-1 HH-46 aircraft and crews flew 50 sorties and 63 flight hours in emergency conditions and recovered 399 people stranded in trees and roof tops and flooded vehicles.
