The Bell Award is presented to recognize outstanding contributions to research and experimentation in helicopter development. Blake and Garnett were recognized for their efforts as the leaders of the Boeing Vertol Simulation Laboratory's contribution to the ad­vancement of simulation technology. In 1982 the Simulation Laboratory put in­to operational use a rotorcraft motion-­base simulator that is a unique and valuable tool in the cost effective in­vestigation of flight control laws.
